Back up with Cloud Storage

  • Updated

With Cloud Storage, each culling or editing project you upload to Imagen is automatically backed up. When you subscribe to Imagen, you get 3 months or 100 MB of Cloud Storage free. Check out our Cloud Storage plans for more info.

Cloud Storage only supports photos uploaded from Lightroom Classic catalogs. You can't upload photos from a folder.

If you need to cancel your Cloud Storage plan, we keep your high-res photos for one month before deleting them.

Choose a Cloud Storage plan

From your account, click Cloud Settings, and then click Explore cloud plans.

High-resolution backup

Optimized photos (recommended)

  • Preserves original resolution
  • Reduces RAW file size by up to 75%
  • Faster uploads
  • Stores up to 4 times more projects. For example, a 40 MB RAW file becomes a 10 MB RAW file with identical resolution.

Original photos

  • Creates exact copies of your RAW and JPEG files
  • No compression
  • JPEGs are always stored as originals, regardless of settings

Free low-resolution backup

  • Automatic 1.5 megapixel backup of all photos
  • Not included in storage limits

Cloud Storage status

On the Projects page, the Cloud Status column shows the status of the project’s backup. In this case, where there is a yellow cloud icon, there is only a low-resolution backup for this project.

Here are the possible Cloud Storage statuses:

  • Green cloud: High-resolution backup available
  • Yellow cloud: Low-resolution backup only
  • White cloud with line through it: No backup
  • White cloud with arrow pointing up: Upload in progress.

How backup works in Cloud Storage

Cloud Storage backs up your work in two different processes. It:

  • Uploads the project photos for culling or editing.
  • Uploads the high-resolution photos to Cloud Storage for backup. When using HDR Merge, the original high-res photos are backed up, but the HDR photos are not.

Keep in mind

  • Uploading for culling or editing is the top priority. Cloud Storage uploads these projects first.
For example, if you start uploading a culling or editing project during the backup of a project to Cloud Storage, the backup upload will pause, and the new project will start uploading immediately.
  • If the Imagen app is turned off while your computer uploads a project, the upload process resumes automatically from where it left off the next time you open Imagen.
