Imagen has simplified creating a Personal AI Profile by supporting popular Adobe editing software in addition to Adobe Lightroom Classic. We call this support Extended Adobe Compatibility.
In this article, we'll explain how to create a Personal AI Profile using the metadata from your edited photos when using Lightroom, Bridge, or Photoshop (Camera RAW) in your editing workflow. For general information about Personal AI Profiles, see What is a Personal AI Profile?
Understanding metadata and how Adobe handles it
Before we start, let's go over some basics about metadata. Metadata is important information about your photos, like camera settings, exposure settings and other editing details.
This is how Adobe editing software handles metadata:
- When using the latest version of Lightroom, your metadata for camera RAW files (such as NEF, CR2, and ARW) is saved in sidecar XMP files alongside the originals. For JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and DNG formats, XMP metadata is embedded directly into the files.
- When using Bridge and Photoshop (Adobe Camera RAW), your editing changes are automatically saved to your photos.
- When using older versions of Lightroom, you must export your edited photos before using them in Imagen to make an AI profile. We’ll cover this extra step further down in this article.
Create a Personal AI Profile
- Click AI Profiles, and then click Create your own profile. Click Personal AI Profile and select your preferences.
- Once you name the profile, follow the steps to upload photos to the profile.
- Click Browse to select the folder with the edited photos you want to use.
If you see Choose a Lightroom Classic catalog, click Choose photos/folder to switch to Extended Adobe Compatibility.
- Navigate to the folder containing your edited photos. Make sure that the XMP info from the edits is associated with the photo. For RAW format, make sure the XMP file is uploaded together with the photo. For DNG and JPEG formats, make sure the XMP information is embedded in the photos.
- Click Select Folder and click Upload.
- While the photos from this folder are uploading, click Add Photos to add more photos to your profile. You can view the status of your uploads by clicking the Uploading button on the top right.
Exporting edited photos from older versions of Lightroom
If you're using an older version of Lightroom, there’s an extra step to export the metadata of the photos to your RAW photos so that Imagen can read them.
- Select the photos you want to export.
- Click the Share button on the top right of the screen.
- Under the Export section, choose Original + Settings.
- Select or create a folder to save the photos and click Export.
To review this process in-app from the Add Photos page, click export from Lightroom.
Switch between Adobe editing software
- Click Choose Photos/Folder at the bottom left of the Add Photos page.
- Select the editing software you use.
To switch back, click Choose a Catalog.
