Fine-tuning makes your Personal AI Profile more accurate by adjusting it to your latest editing changes. To keep your profile as close to your style as possible, we recommend uploading your final edits after each project Imagen edits for you. You won't see changes in your profile until it's time for fine-tuning.
Check if your profile is ready
- From the AI Profiles page, click My Profiles.
- Click your profile name.
- Look at the progress bar under Photos included in profile. You need at least 2,000 final edits.
Ready to fine-tune? You'll see a Send for fine-tuning button when you have enough edits.
Not ready yet? Keep uploading final edits after each project. The progress bar shows how many more edits you need.
How to fine-tune
-
Duplicate your profile as a backup.
- From the AI Profiles page, click My Profiles.
- Click your profile name.
- Click Send for fine-tuning.
- Wait for fine-tuning to complete, which is up to 24 hours. You can keep using your profile while it fine-tunes.
What is fine-tuning?
Fine-tuning updates your Personal AI Profile with new editing information from your uploaded final edits. When you have enough new edits, you can fine-tune your profile to include these changes, making it match your style even better.
Think of it like this. Your original Personal AI Profile learned from 2,000-5,000 photos. As you use Imagen and upload your tweaks, you're teaching it about new lighting situations, venues, and ways you refined your style. Fine-tuning brings all those lessons into your profile.
Understanding your progress bar
Your progress bar shows three types of photos:
- Cyan: Original photos used to create your profile
- Yellow: Final edits you've uploaded
- Dashed yellow: Final edits still needed for fine-tuning
When the yellow section reaches the end of the dashed yellow section, you're ready to fine-tune.
Photos needed for fine-tuning
Upload half as many edits as you used to create your profile. The minimum is 2,000 edits.
| Original profile photos | Edits needed for fine-tuning |
| 2,000-4,000 | 2,000 |
| 5,000 | 2,500 |
| 8,000 | 4,000 |
| 12,000 | 6,000 |
To see what you need, go to your AI Profile page. Imagen shows exactly how many more edits you need.
Common questions
How often should I fine-tune my profile?
Fine-tune your profile whenever Imagen notifies you that you have enough edits. For best results, upload your final edits after each project.
Typical timeline:
If you shoot 500-1,000 photos per project and upload final edits each time, you'll be ready to fine-tune every 2-5 projects.
Can I use my profile while it's fine-tuning?
Yes, you can continue using your AI Profile while fine-tuning runs in the background. Your edits use the current version of your profile until fine-tuning completes.
What happens after fine-tuning completes?
Imagen notifies you when fine-tuning is complete. Your next project automatically uses the fine-tuned version of your profile. You don't need to do anything.
Will fine-tuning change my style completely?
No. Fine-tuning makes small refinements based on your uploaded edits. It adapts to your evolving style without dramatic changes. Your profile stays true to your core aesthetic.
What if I don't like the fine-tuned version?
Contact support. We can help revert to a previous version of your profile if needed.
Do I need to fine-tune to keep using my profile?
No. You can continue using your profile without fine-tuning. However, fine-tuning helps your profile adapt to your style changes and improves accuracy over time.
Can I fine-tune multiple times?
Yes. You can fine-tune as many times as you want. Each fine-tuning session requires uploading the minimum number of new final edits.
Does fine-tuning cost anything?
No. Fine-tuning is included with your Imagen subscription at no additional cost.
How long does it take to fine-tune my profile?
Training usually takes up to 24 hours, and often finishes sooner. If it's been less than 24 hours, your profile is likely still in progress. Check back soon.
My profile has been "Analyzing" for more than 24 hours. What should I do?
Check your email inbox, including your Spam or Promotions folders. Imagen sends you an email when training completes or if there's an issue with your training photos. If you haven't received anything after 24 hours, contact support and we'll help you out.
Why didn't my profile finish training?
Training can stall when there's an issue with your photos. The most common causes are unedited photos in your training set, missing Adobe editing metadata, fewer than 2,000 valid edited photos, or inconsistent editing across your dataset. Review your training photos using the tips in What is a Personal AI Profile? and retrain your profile.
