Make local adjustments with Subject Mask

  • Updated

Correcting the main subject of a photo will make it stand out and look better. The Subject Mask AI tool automatically finds the photo's main subject, applies a mask using brushes, and then applies a local AI edit to that mask.

For limitations in Lightroom Classic when working with local adjustments, see this guide.

Adjust Subject Mask settings

You can tweak Subject Mask settings to match your editing style. There are two ways to adjust the Subject Mask settings:

  • Correction: Adjusts the value determined by Imagen. For example, in the Exposure area, if you set the correction to +0.20, the exposure for the Subject Mask will increase by 0.20. The Correction adjustment is only available for the Basic and HSL panels.
  • Fixed Value: Overrides the value in the Subject Mask to the value you set. The Fixed Value adjustment is not available for exposure.

You can adjust the Subject Mask settings before or after you upload photos to edit.

Adjust Subject Mask settings before uploading photos to edit

In the Choose AI Tools area, find Subject Mask, and click the Adjust button.
