When reviewing culling results in Culling Studio, you can export the ratings in XMP format, which lets you review results in another editing software. The XMP information includes the stars, color labels, and flags.
In this guide, we’ll cover how to:
- Find XMP info in RAW, DNG, and JPEG photos
- View color labels in your editing software
Find XMP info in RAW, DNG, and JPEG photos
The XMP information is saved as separate sidecar XMP files for RAW photos and embedded inside DNG and JPEG files.
RAW photos and sidecar XMP files
For RAW photos, the XMP file is a separate sidecar file created in the same folder as the original photo. The XMP file has the same name as the RAW photo, but its extension is XMP. To see the culling information, the XMP file must be in the same folder and with the same name as the original photo, like this:
Imagen supports these RAW formats: NEF, CR2, ARW, NRW, CRW, SRF, SR2, ORF, RW2, RAF, PTX, PEF, RWL, SRW, CR3, 3FR, and FFF.
DNG and JPEG photos with embedded XMP information
For DNG and JPEG photos, the XMP information is saved embedded in the photo itself.
View color labels after exporting culling ratings as XMP
Sometimes, there is a mismatch between the color labels in your editing software and those in Culling Studio exported as XMP. When this happens, you don’t see the labels in your editing software after culling.
To see the color labels, you need to change the color labels in your editing software to match the preferences in Culling Studio. You can decide if you want to change the preferences in Culling Studio or to change the labels in your editing software.
We’ve included the default color labels for Culling Studio and information about how to set labels in Photo Mechanic and Adobe Bridge.
