What is Imagen?

Imagen is an AI-powered solution that eliminates hours of busy work from post-production for professional photographers. We use AI to speed up your workflow while preserving your unique style and leaving you in full control of the final results. Cull, edit, and store photos in the cloud in one intuitive workflow.

In this guide, we cover the main steps to get you up and running.

Step 1: Install Imagen and sign in

You first sign up for Imagen before downloading and installing it on your computer. Imagen sends you a one-time password when signing in for the first time.

  1. Go to imagen-ai.com to sign up for Imagen.
  2. Click Sign up and Download now.
  3. Download the correct software for your operating system.
  4. Install Imagen.
  5. Log in for the first time with a one-time password that Imagen sent to your email.

Step 2: Choose an AI Profile that matches your style

Before you can start editing your photos with Imagen, you need an AI Profile. This profile predicts your style and edits each photo as you would.

Not sure which to start with? If you have 2,000 already-edited photos, a Personal AI Profile gives the closest match to your style. If you'd rather start today without those photos, use a Lite Personal AI Profile. If you're not ready to build a profile yet, browse a ready-made one instead.

Personal AI Profile: teach Imagen to edit like you

If you have 2,000 original edited photos from Lightroom Classic or other Adobe software, try a Personal AI Profile. This profile is created from your edits, so it's the closest to your style, and it consistently gives the best results. We can automatically create a profile for you by choosing the best catalogs that show your style, or you can stay in control and do it yourself.

See What is a Personal AI Profile? for more info.

Ready-made styles in the Profile Showcase

We have lots of AI Profiles ready to use in our Profile Showcase. Our Talent AI Profiles are based on the style of a famous photographer, and you can edit in that same style. We also have Imagen AI Profiles created for real estate, school, and sports photography.

See Start editing now with a ready-made AI Profile for more info.

If you don't find a profile you like, you can buy one from our Profile Shop.

Lite Personal AI Profile: the quickest way to start

Upload a Lightroom Classic preset you like, then answer a survey about your editing style. No photos required. As you use this profile, you can upload your final edits to fine-tune it.

See Create a Lite Personal AI Profile with a preset instead of edited photos for more info.

Step 3: Upload and edit your photos

Once you have your AI profile, it's time to upload your photos for editing with an Imagen project. Create a dedicated project for each batch of photos you edit.

In the project, you set:

  • The project name to identify it later
  • The AI profile
  • The source of the photos to edit. This is your Lightroom Classic catalog, or a folder with the original photos from your camera, including the metadata your camera captures automatically (EXIF and capture data).

Don't change the file names of your original photos, and keep them in the same location where you uploaded them. If you need to move them, you can browse to the new location when you review the edits.

  • Photos to exclude from the upload, if you tagged photos with metadata beforehand. See Use Imagen filters to mark and choose specific photos from a Lightroom Classic catalog.
  • Editing options like crop, straighten, and subject mask

Before starting the upload, you can review the estimated cost of the edit. When you're just starting to use Imagen, the trial edits are free.

Unsupported formats

These formats aren't supported: HEIC, PSD, PNG, and GIF.

If you convert these formats to RAW, DNG, or JPEG, make sure the original camera metadata is preserved. If it's stripped or changed, the photos will still be incompatible with Imagen.

Step 4: Download and review photos in your editing software

When your edited photos are ready for review, download the edits and review the photos in your editing software.

Imagen doesn't change your original photos. It only updates the editing settings for each photo to match your AI profile. For this reason, keep your original photos in the same location where you uploaded them.

With the Personal AI Profile or the Lite Personal AI Profile, you can upload your final edits. Once there are enough changes, you decide if and when to fine-tune your profile. This way, your profile evolves with your style.

Step 5: Create posts for Instagram or deliver photos to clients

Imagen can help you create posts for social media and export final JPEGs to deliver to clients. There's also an integration with Pic-Time to publish to an online gallery.
